The Owl Kids Digital Tool was a concept project developed through a District 3 mandate for Owl Kids Publishing. Over the course of three weeks, our team designed an app experience that reimagined Owl Kids’ print content for children growing up in an increasingly interactive, screen-based world.

My role centered on design and consulting, helping shape a concept that balanced learning, creativity, and accessibility for both children and parents.

challenge.

The core challenge was designing for two audiences at once: children and their parents. For children, the experience needed to feel intuitive, engaging, and open-ended enough to encourage curiosity and creativity.

For parents, it needed to be safe and educational. Our research revealed that the opportunity was not to replace Owl Kids’ existing content, but to reimagine how it could be better accessed, explored, and experienced through digital interaction.

results.

The final outcome was a prototype for a children’s app that combined reading, exploration, and story creation. Instead of organizing content like a traditional magazine, we structured it around themes and interests, making it easier for kids to browse intuitively. The concept also introduced the Imagination Station, a feature that lets children create original stories using ideas drawn from Owl Kids articles, turning passive reading into a more active and creative experience.
